Repeal Of Law On Financial Loss Will Collapse Ghana - Oduro
The Cape Coast parliamentary candidate-elect of the National Democratic Congress, Mr Barton Oduro, has said that any attempt to repeal or amend the law “on wilfully causing financial loss to the state” would give public officials and ministers the opportunity to loot the nation's wealth.
He said the NDC was founded on the principles of probity and accountability. He, therefore, supports the view of the flag bearer of the party, Professor John Evans Atta Mills, on the retention of the law to prevent public officials from misusing state resources.
Mr Oduro was speaking at a forum organised by the University of Cape Coast branch of the Tertiary Educational Institutions Network (TEIN) of the NDC in Cape Coast.
He called on members of the NDC to be vigilant and collaborate with each other in order to win the 2008 election.
The Member of Parliament for Tamale South, Mr Haruna Iddrisu, said the NDC would not do anything to disturb the national stability and peace prevailing in the country and called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to refrain from declaring election results as they did in the 2004 election.
He said it was only the Electoral Commission that was constitutionally mandated to declare election results and added that the NDC would not accept anything short of that.
The President of the UCC branch of TEIN, Mr Michael Donibibre Asabire, said Ghanaians were yearning for the NDC to recapture power from the ruling NPP and govern the country in a humane way which was characteristic of the NDC.
