Gov’t aware of current transport woes; we’re working to fix it — Vice President assures

Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has assured Ghanaians that government is actively taking steps to address the transport challenges facing commuters.

She noted that congestion, long queues and overcrowding have made daily travel stressful for many, especially during peak hours.

The Vice President emphasized that the situation requires collaboration between government and transport operators to deliver practical solutions.

Speaking at a stakeholder meeting with transport operators at the Ministry of Transport on Friday, January 16, Professor Opoku-Agyemang stressed that government recognizes the frustrations commuters face.

“The problem is caused by various factors, including exploitation by some drivers, long queues at bus stops and terminals, congestion, and other related stresses. We want our fellow countrymen and women to know that the government is not blind to this situation.”

She explained that the government sees the transport challenge as a shared problem and is committed to working with both public and private sector operators to improve the system.

The Vice President further highlighted plans to modernize transport services and expand access with the procurement of new high-occupancy buses.

“In this vein, His Excellency the President has asked me to assure you that government will support Metro Mass and the private sector with new high-occupancy buses to augment services in the medium term,” she added.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang urged operators to uphold high standards in service delivery and treat passengers with respect to strengthen public trust in the transport sector.
