Kwesi Nduom on 'Skirt and Blouse' voting
A presidential aspirant of the Convention People's Party, Paa Kwesi Ndoum, says he is not the architect of the 'skirt and blouse' class of voting amongst the Nkrumaist Family and that his detractors should stop using that against him in his bid to lead the party in the 2008 Presidential election.
He said he cannot be blamed for 'selling' the CPP to the NPP in the last two general elections since this class of voting had been adopted by Nkrumaists as far back as 1992 before he actively entered the political arena.
This negative propaganda being used against him by his own party members in the flagbearership race, he said, is doing more harm than good to the image of the new CPP.
"Have my detractors forgotten so soon that the Peoples Convention Party went into alliance with the NPP and taught Nkrumaists to vote NPP presidential and PCP Parliamentary", he asked.
Addressing party delegates from six constituencies in the Tarkwa-Nsuem constituency as part of his two day campaign tour in the Western Region on Monday, Dr Ndoum said his six and a half year association with the Kufuor administration is also being used by his detractors against him, forgetting that he was working for the good of the country and not himself.
He noted that many CPP members like Kojo Armah, Freddy Blay, George Hagan and Agyeman Badu Akosah (another aspirant) had since the year 2001 been given the opportunity to prove themselves by being appointed by the Kufuor administration to responsible positions in the country.
Dr Ndoum said he was aware of moves by some elements in the CPP who were being pushed by people in the NDC and the NPP to campaign for positions in the party in order to create confusion within the party. "These people should stop making unnecessary noise and rather join the bandwagon of the new CPP for the benefit of all of us", he advised.
According to the 54 year old father of four, the 2008 electioneering campaign would neither be a down trodden or 'mobrowa' one and that the CPP would need a political heavy-weight who is also well resourced to face the candidates from the other political parties, particularly the ruling NPP.
He charged delegates to the party's November 24 National Congress to endorse his candidature to enable him match these presidential candidates boot for boot.
In Dr Ndoum's view, Ghanaians are desperately yearning for the CPP to come back to power after trying both the NDC and the NPP.
The Presidential aspirant later in the day paid a courtesy call on the late Kwame Nkrumah's maternal family members at Nkroful. He promised that a new CPP government under his administration would build a library complex in the town to house the works of 's first president.Ghana
The Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem MP was accompanied by Mike Eghan, First National vice-chairman of the party now aspiring to be the national treasurer, Felix Amoah, campaign chairman and Mary Ankomah, the party's former MP for the Mpohor-East constituency who has expressed interest in contesting the for seat again in the 2008 parliamentary election.
