Alu-Africa donates to Orphanage

Alu –Africa Company Limited, manufacturer of Galvanized and Zinc alum leak free roofing system has donated assorted food items and drinks worth five thousand Ghana cedi to the Mercy Orphanage Home at Ashelley in Accra.

The items included bags of rice, oil, bags of sugar, boxes of tomato past and assorted fruits juices.

Nii Ayitey Aryee, Marketing Manager of Alu Africa Company Ltd. Stated that the donation forms part of the social responsibility of the company.


He said the company decided to bring the items at this time to enable the orphans enjoy this years' Eid-Fitr celebration.

“We want the orphans not to feel the absence of their parent or guidance during the celebration where every body is expected to feast after a successful month of fasting”, he said.

He said the donation became necessary after an earlier visit by some members of the company.

He explained that during their last visit the company realized that the conditions under which the children lived needed to be upgraded.


The gesture is also to inform the general public about the plight of the orphans, so that they can also donate to the home.

He added “The donation is in fulfillment of the prophet' teaching that , Muslims should be merciful and generous to the less privileged ones especially in the month of Ramadan.”

Anas Yakubu , Care taker of the Mercy Orphanage Home stated that the home has one hundred and eighty – eight children mostly Moslem and was founded in 1998.

He said the orphanage has children from primary to High schools. The home according to him is sponsored by the Government of Kuwait and its run here in Ghana under the Africa Moslem Agency (Ghana).


He explained that the home has problem with water and books for learning.

He thanked Alu Africa Company Ltd for coming to the aid of the home again and appealed to other companies to emulate their gesture.

A tour around the home by ADM revealed that most of the children sleep on the floor while some of the dormitories have no windows.

ADM investigations revealed that poor management on the part of the management of the home has also led to the deplorable state of the home.
