Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) on Wednesday night successfully contained a fire outbreak at the Mallam Atta Market in Accra, preventing what could have been a major catastrophe.
According to the GNFS, the distress call was received at 10:46 p.m., and the first response team from the National Headquarters, led by ADO I Ahoni, arrived at the scene at 11:02 p.m.
Reinforcement teams from the Circle and Flagstaff House Fire Stations joined the operation at 11:13 p.m. and 11:29 p.m., respectively.

The fire was brought under control by 12:01 a.m. and completely extinguished by 12:24 a.m.
Twelve wooden structures—six used as shops and six as residential units—were destroyed in the blaze, while a 40-foot container serving as a cold store sustained partial damage.
GNFS officials commended the swift coordination of responding teams, noting that several adjoining structures were saved through timely and tactical firefighting efforts.
No casualties or injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
