Togbega Kwao Anipati laid to rest

The late Paramount chief of the Mepe Traditional Area, Togbega Kwao Anipati IV was laid to rest last Saturday after a burial ceremony which attracted all the chiefs and queen mothers from Tongu, Anlo Traditional Council, Greater Accra Region and all walks of life.

The chiefs and people of the Avazorli communities namely, Ziavi, Botoku, Kpedze-Todze, Etordome and Kpando –Aziavi, sister communities of Mepe were also in attendance, led by the Paramount Chief of the Ziavi Traditional Area Togbe Kwaku Ayim III.

The late Paramount Chief until his death was the President of the North Tongu Council of chiefs and the Dean of Studies at the Wisconsin International University and a former Lecturer of the University of Ghana Legon.


The Government delegation at the funeral was led by the Volta Regional Minister, Mr. Samuel Kofi Dzamesi and supported by a number of District Chief Executives in the Region including the DCE for North Tongu Mr. Moses Asem and other DCEs from the Afram Plains, Asuogyaman and the Greater Accra Region.

In a tribute read on behalf of the Government, Mr. Dzamesi said the death of Togbega Kwao Anipati was a great loss to the state.

He said under the leadership of the late chief there was total peace in the area. This had brought accelerated development to the people over the decades and therefore urged the chiefs and people in the area to uphold the legacy he left behind.

Mr. Dzamesi stressed the need for the kingmakers to ensure that the selection and the installation of a new Paramount chief was conducted in a peaceful manner.


He donated 14 crates of traditional drinks and soft drinks as well as an undisclosed amount of money to the Traditional Council on behalf of the Government.

On his part, the Paramount chief of the Ziavi Traditional Area in the Ho Municipality, and President of the Avazorli Group, Togbe Kwaku Ayim said the Group had lost one of its illustrious sons and hoped that a person of equal capabilities would fill the vacuum that has been created.

Also at the funeral was the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Prof. J.E.A Mills, the Minority Leader, Mr. Alban Bagbin and 13 other NDC MPs. Prof. Mills presented ¢10 million, cartons of traditional drinks and soft drinks to the traditional council on behalf of the party.

The Moderator of the Presbyterian Church led the church service in memory of Togbega, who was a member of the church.
