Mr. Mohhamed Atta, counsel for Issah Abass has indicated that his client is ready to buy a plane ticket to enable Ben Ndego, the interdicted Director of Operations of the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) fly down from the United Kingdom (UK) to testify.

According to Mr. Atta, they had arranged with a traveling agency and also asked Derry and Co., lawyers for Ndego, to provide the full name of their client as well as his passport number, and hoped to get all the necessary information by Monday.

Ndego had been subpoenaed to appear in court and testify on whether he assigned Issah to record the infamous Kofi Boakye Tape, because Issah had earlier told the court in his evidence in-chief that he was asked by Ndego to do so.

The interdicted Director of Operations of NACOB, after the subpoena was published in the Daily Graphic, instructed his lawyers to write to the court that he was studying in the UK.

Ndego indicated he would come down and testify only if Issah would pay for his flight and other expenses.

Counsel for Issah said these at a Fast-Track High Court presided over by Justice Jones Dotse, where Issah and Kwabena Amaning alias Tagor are standing trial in connection with narcotic related offences.

Rtd. Col. Issac Kwasi Akuoku, the former Executive Secretary of NACOB who was also mentioned by Issah as someone who knew of the assignment had denied the allegation but admitted he would know of the one who recorded the Kofi Boakye Tape.

In addition, counsel for Issah told the court that one of Ndego's lawyers was expected to appear and brief the court on preparations being made for their client to fly down, so the court was stood down for about fifteen minutes to enable him do so.

However, after a few minutes, Mr Atta told the court that Ndego's lawyer who was expected to arrive had been engaged somewhere, so could not make it.

The trial Judge then suggested that a short adjournment be made for counsel for Issah to brief the court on whether Ndego would fly down from the UK and when he would arrive, for a date to be fixed for him to testify.

According to the Judge, if by the next adjournment the witness is not around, it would be taken to mean he was not available and a date subsequently fixed for the presentation of addresses.

The matter has been adjourned to September 7, 2007.

Tagor and Issah are facing seven counts of conspiracy to commit crime, dealing in prohibited business relating to narcotic drugs, buying and supply of narcotic drugs.
