24-hour economy can’t be run in the whole Ghana — Miracles Aboagye

Aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has said the 24-hour economy policy cannot benefit every Ghanaian.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) communicator accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of misleading Ghanaians during the campaign by suggesting the policy could be implemented across the entire country.

Speaking on Accra-based JoyNews on Thursday, July 3, Miracles Aboagye argued that President John Dramani Mahama’s promise would soon disappoint many people.

“You cannot have a 24-hour economy in my village because it is predominantly a cocoa farming area. They go to the farms in the morning, make money from farming, and then transport it to where industries are being set up,” he said.

“So don’t let the people in the hinterlands feel they are going to be part of a 24-hour economy. The truth of the matter is that indeed, a 24-hour economy is a viable outcome of every economy if you put in the basics like they are doing. However, it is not everywhere that you can run a 24-hour economy,” Aboagye added.

The 24-hour economy and Accelerated Export Development Programme was officially launched in Accra on Wednesday, July 2.

President John Dramani Mahama described it as a revival of Ghana’s founding vision of industrial transformation, first championed by Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

According to him, the country is returning to the original mission behind the Akosombo Dam project, which was not only to generate electricity but also to drive industrial growth, agro-processing, and national productivity across sectors.

Even if it can be run in only one region, wouldn't that be far better than digging empty holes with $58 million dollars..????

Is Mahama's government heading in the right direction?
