Climate GMet forecasts cloudy skies, evening thunderstorms across Ghana today
TUE, 24 JUN 2025

Ghanaians can expect a mix of mist, fog, and isolated thunderstorms throughout the day as the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) issues its latest 24-hour weather forecast, valid from 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 24, 2025.

The forecast paints a picture of shifting atmospheric conditions across the country, with "mist and fog patches expected over some coastal and forest areas during the early morning hours" and cloud cover dominating much of the national skyline.

"Light to moderate rainfall is expected in some parts of the extreme north and inland coastal zones during the morning," the bulletin noted, warning of increasingly volatile conditions as the day progresses. "From the afternoon into the evening hours, isolated thunderstorms are likely in parts of middle, transitional, and northern Ghana."

Coastal cities such as Accra, Kasoa, Takoradi, and Cape Coast woke up to hazy or misty skies. While the early hours were calm, residents are advised to prepare for wet weather later in the day. "Accra, for instance, will see partly cloudy skies in the morning with a 30% chance of rain in the afternoon, and temperatures peaking around 32°C."

In the middle and transitional belts—covering cities like Kumasi, Koforidua, Sunyani, and Techiman—GMet predicts a blend of mist, cloud cover, and sunny breaks in the morning, followed by possible thunderstorms in the afternoon. Temperatures across this zone are expected to range between 31°C and 33°C.

Northern Ghana, meanwhile, is set for another round of weather extremes. Tamale, Yendi, and Bole are expected to remain mostly sunny with patchy clouds during the day, but "possible thunderstorms" are forecast to hit in the evening. Bolgatanga and Wa are likely to face daytime thunderstorms before the skies return to overcast conditions later.

Today’s bulletin reinforces a growing pattern of intense, localized weather shifts—a trend meteorologists attribute to broader climate variability across the West African subregion.

Authorities are urging the public to stay updated on evolving conditions through GMet’s official channels and take necessary precautions, particularly in areas at risk of storm activity and flooding.

As the rainy season deepens, GMet continues to monitor atmospheric developments closely and promises timely updates to ensure public safety.
