Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, John Setor Dumelo, says Ghana is opening new doors for strategic partnerships in the agricultural sector as part of ongoing efforts to transform the economy.
The Ayawaso West Wougon Member of Parliament made the statement on Monday, June 23, at the opening ceremony of the Ghana-China Business Summit in Accra.
The summit brings together business leaders, entrepreneurs, and policymakers from Ghana and China to promote trade and explore investment opportunities between the two countries.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Dumelo stressed the John Dramani Mahama-led NDC government’s focus on food security, value addition, and innovation in agriculture, adding that collaboration with countries like China will be key.
“For us as a people and for us as a government, what is most important to us is to be able to feed ourselves, to feed the industries and export the rest, adding value before we export,” he said.
He noted that Ghana, despite its vast agricultural land, must prioritise efficiency and innovation to maximise output and meet both domestic and industrial demand.
“We are here this morning to say our doors are open. Even though it’s been open for a very long time, we’re opening new doors now…and we are inviting all of you and the rest of the world to join us to make agriculture great again in this country,” the Deputy Minister stated.
Mr. Dumelo further highlighted the importance of technology transfer and improved land use, describing them as crucial for Ghana’s agricultural advancement.
The 5-day Ghana-China Business Summit is expected to deepen economic cooperation and enhance bilateral relations between both countries.
