The Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) has announced a temporary lane reduction on both the northbound and southbound sections of the Madina-Accra road at the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange, starting Sunday, June 22, 2025.
This adjustment, expected to last four months, is part of ongoing efforts to expand the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange Bridge and accommodate the extension of lanes on the Accra-Tema Motorway.
In a statement released on Thursday, June 19, the GHA explained that the lane reduction is necessary to facilitate the construction of a central pier beneath the bridge and to ensure the safety of workers and commuters.
“The Ghana Highway Authority, acting on behalf of the Ministry of Roads and Highways, wishes to inform the public and all road users of an upcoming traffic management arrangement as part of the ongoing construction works on the Accra-Tema Motorway and Extensions Project (19.5km),” the statement read.
“To facilitate central pier construction works for the expansion of the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange Bridge, the number of lanes on the North-South bound carriageway (Madina to Accra direction) and vice versa will be temporarily reduced from four (4) lanes to three (3),” it added.
The Authority urged motorists to adhere to all posted signage, follow traffic guidance, and cooperate with traffic officers during the period of disruption.
Officials say the measures are part of a broader strategy to improve traffic flow and infrastructure resilience across one of Accra’s busiest corridors.
