The Appointments Committee of Parliament has put the vetting of Supreme Court nominee Justice Kwaku Tawiah Ackaah-Boafo on hold, following the receipt of a petition challenging his nomination.
Justice Ackaah-Boafo, who currently serves on the Court of Appeal, was slated to appear before the Committee on Wednesday, June 19, 2025, as the final nominee among seven justices appointed by President John Dramani Mahama to the Supreme Court.
However, the Committee announced a last-minute suspension of the process to allow for a thorough review of the petition lodged against him.
While the exact nature and content of the petition have not been made public, parliamentary sources say the concerns raised are significant enough to warrant further scrutiny before the vetting can proceed.
“The Committee believes it is only fair and prudent to examine the issues raised before inviting the nominee for questioning,” one source indicated.
Justice Ackaah-Boafo’s vetting will remain on hold until the Committee completes its preliminary assessment of the petition and determines the appropriate course of action.
The development adds a new layer of complexity to the ongoing approval process for the President’s latest round of Supreme Court appointments.
