Some 51 candidates who registered for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Ahafo Region failed to sit for the examination, Mr Yaw Frimpong, the Ahafo Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service (GES) said on Thursday.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Goaso, the regional capital, he said the absentees were among the 12,752 total candidates.

He added that reasons for their failure to write the BECE were yet to be known, saying one of them, a male candidate of Techire Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Basic School in the Tano North Municipality started the examination, however passed on last Saturday June 14, 2025 after a short illness.

Mr Frimpong lauded the way and manner the candidates and the invigilators comported themselves during the examinations, saying none of the 48 examination centers spread across the six politically administrative districts and municipalities recorded any incident.

He expressed appreciation to all the stakeholders whose contribution in one way or the other led to the successful conduct of the BECE in the region.
