A horrific road accident in Bibiani, located in Ghana’s Western North Region, has claimed the life of a woman after a timber-laden articulated truck lost control and overturned along the Goaso–Bibiani highway.
The fatal incident occurred near the Bibiani Old Town road diversion. According to eyewitness accounts, the truck—a Man Diesel with registration number AS 3047-17—was en route from Goaso to Kumasi, carrying a full load of 4×4 and 4×2 timber.
While negotiating a sharp bend, the truck reportedly became unstable. In a devastating sequence, the vehicle’s head separated from the trailer, causing the rear section to topple over and crash onto a pedestrian — a woman believed to be in her early 40s — killing her on the spot.
“The truck was speeding, and as soon as it got to the curve, it split. The trailer landed exactly where the woman was standing. It was heartbreaking,” a resident at the scene recounted.
Eyewitnesses described the aftermath as chaotic and traumatizing, with locals rushing in a desperate attempt to rescue the victim, but to no avail.
Emergency personnel from the Ghana Police Service and other first responders arrived promptly to secure the area and initiate investigations. The deceased’s body was transported to the Bibiani Government Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
The driver of the truck has been taken into police custody and is assisting with investigations into the cause of the crash.
Residents of Bibiani have expressed outrage and concern, describing the area as a “death trap” due to the frequency of accidents. They are calling on authorities to install speed ramps, caution signs, and enforce speed regulations to prevent further loss of life.
As investigations continue, the community is mourning the tragic loss while renewing calls for urgent road safety interventions on the increasingly dangerous stretch.
