The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, has inaugurated a newly constituted Board of Directors for the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), reinforcing government’s commitment to strengthening food security and agricultural governance in Ghana.

The inauguration ceremony took place on Monday at the Ministry’s headquarters in Accra, where the Minister administered both the Oath of Office and the Oath of Secrecy to the nine-member board.

The new board is chaired by former NAFCO Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Eric Osei-Owusu, and includes professionals drawn from diverse backgrounds in agriculture, public policy, and food distribution.

In his address, the Minister emphasized the strategic importance of the board’s mandate and highlighted its critical role in advancing food security across the country.

“Today’s ceremony underscores government's commitment to bolstering national food security through robust governance and effective leadership,” he stated.

Mr. Opoku noted that the board members were appointed based on their competence, experience, and the confidence placed in them by President John Dramani Mahama.

The full list of board members includes:

  • Dr. Eric Osei-Owusu – Chairman

  • George Abradu-Otoo – CEO, NAFCO

  • Ingr. Sir Joseph Charles Osei

  • Madam Janet Chigabatia-Adama

  • Mr. Collins Mahama

  • Mr. Stephen Baffoe

  • Mr. Daniel Atta-Kusi

  • Mr. Michael Ologo

  • Hajia Benedicta Fati Skido-Achulo

The Minister expressed optimism that the board would provide strategic oversight and sound policy guidance to strengthen NAFCO’s operations.

He charged them to focus on stabilising food prices, ensuring nationwide food availability, and supporting local farmers through structured procurement and stock management systems.

The National Food Buffer Stock Company plays a vital role in Ghana’s food ecosystem by purchasing, storing, and distributing essential food commodities, particularly during times of supply shortfalls.

With the new board in place, the Ministry expects increased efficiency in food stock management and stronger contributions toward the government’s overall food security agenda.
