$6 billion needed to implement comprehensive flood control program — Works and Housing Minister

Minister for Works and Housing, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, says government will need approximately $6 billion to roll out a comprehensive flood control programme across the country.

He said the ministry will explore private sector partnerships and climate financing options to support the initiative.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday, June 18, Mr. Adjei assured that the government is determined to end the recurring floods through long-term investment and stakeholder support.

“The ministry estimates that an investment of approximately $6 billion is needed to implement comprehensive flood control measures across the country.

“We will seek public-private partnerships, climate financing, and development partner support to realise this vision.

“We remain committed to building a Ghana that is flood-resilient, climate-smart, and safe for all citizens. With the support of Parliament, stakeholders and the public, we can turn this crisis into an opportunity to build sustainable, inclusive infrastructure and protect our environment,” he stated.

The minister’s comments come at a time when parts of the country continue to experience perennial flooding, which often enters homes and results in the destruction of lives and property.
