Education Minister joins dignitaries to speak at Ghana China Business Summit

The Minister of Education, Mr. Haruna Iddrisu (MP), will join a lineup of high-profile speakers at the upcoming Ghana-China Business Summit, scheduled from June 23 to June 28, 2025.

The summit, themed "Synergising Opportunities: Strengthening the Ghana-China Business Relationship and Fostering a 24-Hour Economy," will focus on deepening bilateral cooperation across key sectors.

Mr. Iddrisu is expected to speak on the sub-theme "Empowering Minds: Fostering Ghana-China Educational Partnerships for Human Capital Development."

According to a statement issued by the Communication Department of the Ghana-China Business Summit Secretariat, his presentation will spotlight strategic areas such as tertiary education collaboration, TVET and skills training, education technology, scholarships, and capacity building.

The summit is being spearheaded by the Government of Ghana through the Office of the Chief of Staff, in partnership with the Chinese Embassy in Ghana, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, and the Foreign Affairs Ministries of Shandong and Beijing.

Key partners include Perfect World Company Limited (PWCL), Sino Africa Group, Communication for Development and Advocacy Consult (CDA Consult), Lifeline Haven Company Limited, Petroleum Hub Development Corporation, Ghana Exim Bank, and Fidelity Bank.

President John Dramani Mahama is set to officially open the summit on Monday, June 23, setting the tone for the event and outlining Ghana’s strategic vision for its evolving partnership with China.

Mr. Iddrisu will delve into opportunities for partnerships between Ghanaian and Chinese universities, joint efforts to strengthen technical and vocational education, and how Ghana can harness China’s expertise in education technology. He will also explore prospects for expanding scholarships and capacity-building programs for Ghanaian students in China.

Other featured speakers include Professor Michael Kpessa-Whyte, Acting Director-General of the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA), who will speak on the sub-theme "Unlocking State-Owned Enterprise Potential in Ghana's 24-Hour Economy."

Mr. Dennis Anderson, CEO of PWCL and Summit Coordinator, revealed that more than 70 top executives from leading Chinese State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), alongside Ghanaian entrepreneurs and public-private sector leaders, will participate in the event. He described the summit as a crucial platform for forging strategic investment and business alliances, enabling China to tap into Ghana’s geographic advantage as a gateway to the West African market.

Mr. Anderson added that the summit will also serve as an opportunity for government officials to elaborate on the "BIG PUSH" agenda, aimed at accelerating Ghana’s shift to a 24-hour economy and fostering sustainable economic transformation.

Distinguished personalities expected to attend include Chinese Ambassador H.E. Tong-Defa, Mr. Chen Xiaowei, Group Chairman of Sino-Africa Group, and Mr. Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff to the President.

The summit is poised to mark a new phase in Ghana-China relations, positioning education, investment, and innovation at the heart of the bilateral partnership.
