The Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Edward Omane Boamah, has criticised the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) for being more concerned about political power than the welfare of Ghanaians.
He accused the NPP of neglecting the plight of the people despite the economic hardship they endured under the immediate past Akufo-Addo-led administration.
In a social media post on Wednesday, June 18, Dr Boamah described the NPP’s focus on the 2028 general elections as insensitive and self-serving.
“The competent Economic Management Team did enough damage to pensioners, people with disabilities, women, the youth and Ghanaians in general.
“In six short months, instead of apologising sincerely for their misdeeds, they’re focusing on the next elections. NPP thinks only about themselves and the next elections,” he wrote.
His comment follows the NPP’s announcement that it will elect its flagbearer for the 2028 general elections on January 31, 2026.
The date was approved during a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Tuesday, June 17.
“And the National Council today also made the decision that the date for our presidential primaries is set for January 31, 2026. That will be the date that we shall hold our presidential primaries,” said Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party’s General Secretary.
