President John Dramani Mahama has directed the finance minister and the Minister of Energy and Transition, to keep a close eye on the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict and its implications on the energy sector.

The President gave the directive at a durbar of the chiefs and people of the Savannah Region at Damongo, during his Thank You Tour of the Region.

He said despite the work the Government had done in stabilizing the economy, Ghana was not immuned from the shocks of global events.

“Recent events in the Middle East, which involves an exchange of missiles between Israel and Iran, have started to escalate crude oil prices dramatically,” the President said. “I have asked our Minister of Finance and Minister of Energy to keep a close eye on the development and model the possible impacts on our petroleum prices and prepare measures to protect the recent gains that we have made.”

The President expressed gratitude to the Yagbonwura and the chiefs and people of the Savannah Region for their support for him and the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), during the December 7, 2024, general election.

“And today I return not just as your son, but as the President of Ghana to express my appreciation to the Yagbonwura, the chiefs and people, queenmothers, youth and women of the Savannah region for your unwavering support, your trust and your prayers,” he said. “In the most recent elections, you stood firm for a shared vision of fairness, inclusion and transformation."

The President reaffirmed that his commitment to the people of the Savannah Region would never shake.
