The Western Naval Command (WNC) has held an induction service for the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Western Naval Command (WNC) Commodore (Cdre) Samuel Ayelazono as the 20th FOC WNC on Sunday 15 June 2025.

The event which took place at the Harry Seshie Square, Sekondi Naval Base, began with a procession, followed by prayers and words of exhortation.

In his Sermon, the Director General Religious Affairs (DGRA) Apostle Brig Gen BG Kumi Woode noted that leaders cast the vision and leads from the front and a leader knows what to do to bring his abilities to bear on a given situation. He believed that the FOC will bring these attributes to bear as leads WNC.

In his address, the FOC thanked the Almighty God for his new appointment which came with deep feeling of both humility and gratitude.

He noted that the Command was not his only, but for all, and underscored the need for them to sail the ship together with a common purpose as he believed in shared leadership, strength in unity and wisdom that comes from listening to every voice, irrespective of rank or appointment.

He pledged to discharge his responsibilities with a high sense of loyalty, esprit de corps and selfless dedication to duty.

He extended his sincere gratitude to the Military High Command, particularly the Chief of Naval Staff Rear Admiral Godwin Bessing, for appointing him as the FOC WNC, the landlord of WNC Nana Kobina Nketia V, his predecessor, Officers, Sailors, Defence Civilian Staff, his family and all who had contributed through his journey as a Naval Officer.

Speaking at the event, the Guest of Honour, Omanhene of the Essikado Traditional Area, His Royal Majesty Nana Kobina Nketia V, noted that the Western Naval Command played a pivotal role in both national defence and regional maritime cooperation, protecting Ghana’s territorial waters, ensuring maritime security and safeguarding the rich marine resources.

He emphasized that he had long valued the excellent relationship between the traditional authorities and Ghana Navy which had fostered peace, mutual respect and development within communities, and reaffirmed that the Essikado Traditional Area would continue to deepen their support and cooperation with the Ghana Navy.

He extended his heartfelt congratulations to the FOC and prayed his tenure be marked by excellence, unity, discipline and innovation. He was hopeful that his leadership would inspire the men and women under his Command to strive for even greater heights of professionalism and patriotism.

Present were the Western Regional Minister, Honourable Joseph Nelson, Base Commander Air Force Base Takoradi and 2 Garrison Commander, Air Cdre Yirenkyi, Flag Officer Commanding Naval Logistics Command, Cdre Eric Osei, Flag Officer Commanding Naval Training Command, Cdre James Agambire, Municipal Chief Executive, Sekondi-Takoradi, Honourable Lawrence Frederick Faidoo, Lieutenant Commander Isaac Lawrence Anti Ampeh (Rtd), Paramount Chief of Tapa-Abotoase, stakeholders amongst others.
