A devastating rainstorm that swept through the Guo Electoral Area on the afternoon of Friday, 13th June 2025, has left in its wake widespread destruction, plunging parts of the community into darkness and rendering several families homeless.
According to the Assembly Member for the Guo Electoral Area, Hon. Kenneth Bombieh Tengfaah, a total of 21 houses were affected by the storm, with three homes suffering extensive damage. One of the severely hit houses belongs to a mother of three, who now faces an uncertain future following the destruction of her shelter.
The storm, which lasted only a few hours, also brought down several high-tension electricity poles, disrupting power supply to portions of the community. Residents now grapple with the additional burden of living without electricity as they begin recovery efforts.
Among the structures damaged was a church building belonging to the Church of Pentecost. The storm also tore through the home of a retired Police Chief Inspector, further underscoring the indiscriminate nature of the disaster.
The Assembly Member expressed deep sorrow over the scale of destruction. “It is a very sad situation,” he said. “Several families have lost their homes and belongings. Some do not even have a place to sleep. We are appealing for urgent support from the government and benevolent organizations.”
In response to the situation, officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) have visited the affected areas to assess the extent of the damage and determine the kind of relief support required.
As of the time of filing this report, no casualties have been reported. However, affected residents are appealing for temporary shelter, food items, and building materials to help them rebuild their lives.
This incident comes just a day after a similar storm wreaked havoc in the nearby Tuopare Electoral Area, raising concerns about the vulnerability of communities in the Nandom Municipality to changing weather patterns and inadequate infrastructure resilience.
