A total of 2,689 candidates—comprising 1,301 boys and 1,388 girls from both public and private schools—are participating in this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Sunyani West Municipality.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Kwasi Asante Boateng (ESQ), disclosed this during a tour of some examination centres. The visit was aimed at assessing conditions under which the students were taking the exams, offering words of encouragement, and delivering a goodwill message from the President of the Republic, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama.
Mr. Boateng urged the candidates to remain calm and confident throughout the exams and to stay away from any form of malpractice. He encouraged them to write honestly and work hard to make Sunyani West one of the top-performing municipalities in the country.
“This examination is your opportunity to account for all you’ve learned throughout your basic education,” he told the candidates. He further cautioned against relying on external materials, warning that the consequences of being caught could be dire.
In a show of support, the Member of Parliament for Sunyani West, Madam Millicent Amankwah Yeboah, donated 2,700 mathematical sets to the candidates. The sets were presented to the Municipal Director of Education by the MCE on behalf of the MP for onward distribution.
Mr. Boateng was accompanied by officials from the Municipal Education Directorate and staff of the Municipal Assembly.
