The Minister for the Interior, Mr. Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed, has charged the newly inaugurated 15-member Governing Board of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) with combating illicit drug trafficking in Ghana.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony on Thursday in Accra, Mr. Muntaka emphasised that illicit drug trafficking is a transnational organized crime that knows no borders and has devastating effects on society, particularly the youth.
He noted that the inauguration of the Board demonstrates the government’s commitment to openness, proficiency, and professionalism in the fight against illicit narcotics.
The Minister encouraged the Board members to carry out their responsibilities with boldness, humility, and integrity, ensuring their decisions reflect the highest standards of ethical conduct.
He entrusted the Chairman with promoting effective collaboration among Board members and inspiring excellence.
Mr. Muntaka expressed confidence that the Board would work together to uphold the highest standards of public service and honour the oaths they have taken.
The Chairman of the NACOC Board, COP (Rtd.) Bright Oduro assured that the Commission will intensify public education on the negative effects of illegal drug use and pledged to diligently perform its duties to achieve its mandate.
