Education 2025 BECE: Pregnant candidate delivers baby during ICT paper in Ashanti Region
THU, 12 JUN 2025

A pregnant candidate writing this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) shocked exam officials and onlookers when she went into labour and gave birth during her ICT paper.

The unexpected event took place on Wednesday, June 11, at the Asenua Presbyterian Junior High School Examination Centre in Mamponteng, located in the Kwabre East Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

According to eyewitness accounts, the candidate began experiencing intense discomfort and requested to use the washroom. A police officer assigned to the centre escorted her, only to realise she was already in active labour once inside.

Desmond Adjei, a teacher stationed at the examination centre, confirmed the incident in an interview with Ultimate 106.9 FM.

He explained that the candidate was swiftly moved to the headmaster’s office, where she delivered a healthy baby boy with assistance from staff at the centre.

Shortly after the delivery, the pastor of the Asenua Presbyterian Church came to the aid of the new mother and arranged for her and the newborn to be transported to Victory Hospital. Both mother and child are currently reported to be in stable condition and receiving care.
