The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has completed and announced the arrangements for examination depots and centres for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Nandom Municipality of the Upper West Region.
This year, a total of 890 candidates, comprising 437 boys and 453 girls, are expected to take part in the examination. These candidates are drawn from 34 public and 3 private basic schools within the municipality.
The exams will be conducted at four designated centres: Nandom Senior High School (SHS), Ko SHS, St. Maria Goretti Junior High School (JHS), and Baseble Basic School. Nandom SHS will function as the main depot from which exam materials will be distributed to the other centres.
To ensure smooth coordination, the four centres have been allocated a combined team of five supervisors and 32 invigilators. Health workers have also been deployed to each centre to provide prompt medical attention if needed, underscoring the commitment to candidate safety and well-being during the examination period.
Ahead of the exams, the Municipal Director of Education, Madam Pascaline Ninfaakang, and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Anthony Ziniel, visited some of the examination centres to offer words of encouragement to the candidates. Madam Ninfaakang urged the students to remain composed and focused. “You have been well-prepared by your teachers. Stay calm, disciplined, and give your best performance,” she advised.
Hon. Ziniel commended the dedication of the teachers, parents, and candidates, noting that the municipality was counting on their hard work to produce excellent results. “This is your time to shine. We are all behind you,” he said, reinforcing the sense of community support.
The Member of Parliament for the Nandom Constituency, Hon. Richard Kuuire, also conveyed a message of encouragement to the candidates through the MCE.
In a show of support, he announced that he is sponsoring daily hot meals for all 890 candidates across the four centres for the duration of the exams. In addition, sanitary pads have been made available at all centres to support female candidates, ensuring that their focus remains solely on the exams, without distraction or discomfort.
This collective effort, spanning logistics, health, nutrition, and motivation, has been warmly received by the community and education stakeholders.
WAEC has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that the 2025 BECE is conducted in a fair, secure, and supportive environment across all centres in the Nandom Municipality.
