The Tano North Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) commemorated World Environment Day with a series of activities held in Duayaw Nkwanta under the theme, “Ending Plastic Pollution.”
The event brought together key stakeholders, including the NCCE Municipal Director, Mr. Joseph Oduro-Buabeng, and the Municipal Director of the Centre for National Culture, Mr. Richard Owusu Yeboah. Pupils from R/C 'A' Junior High School, M/A JHS, and Victorious Kids International School within the Tano North Municipality also actively participated.
The programme aimed to raise awareness among students about the dangers of plastic pollution, especially its role in flooding through clogged drains and the harm it poses to marine life. As part of the education drive, students were encouraged to find creative ways of reusing plastic waste, including producing bricks and tiles. They were also cautioned against the dangers of open burning and indiscriminate littering.
Victorious Kids International impressed the audience with a poignant poetry recital that urged an end to plastic littering, while R/C 'A' JHS delivered a compelling drama highlighting the devastating impact of plastic pollution. These performances effectively communicated the importance of responsible environmental behavior.
The students later showcased their understanding of the topic through various engaging acts. To acknowledge their efforts, certificates were presented to the participating schools in appreciation of their enthusiastic involvement in the 2025 World Environment Day celebration.
