The Member of Parliament for Ho Central, Hon. Edem Richmond Kofi Kpotosu, has issued a powerful motivational challenge to students sitting for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), promising a reward for outstanding academic performance.

The MP pledged to provide mattresses and chop boxes to 20 candidates who achieve the best possible score, 9 ones, in this year’s exams.

This announcement was made during the presentation of 3,361 mathematical sets to 2,025 BECE candidates from across the municipality. The distribution ceremony took place on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at Ho Kpodzi JHS B, and forms part of Hon. Kpotosu’s broader efforts to empower and inspire students.

In his address to the students, Hon. Kpotosu also revealed plans to organise a post-exam health walk for all candidates and their teachers on June 21, 2025. The initiative is intended to promote wellness and camaraderie among students and educators after the exams.

The MP’s support extended beyond the candidates. He also catered for all invigilators and exam supervisors working at the various centres in the municipality, providing meals to 18 exam officers, 117 invigilators, 11 supervisors, and 11 assistant supervisors across 11 centres.

This series of initiatives underscores Hon. Kpotosu’s commitment to promoting education in Ho Central. From logistical support to physical wellbeing, his efforts are aimed at ensuring students are well-prepared and motivated to excel.

School heads and candidates expressed heartfelt gratitude for the MP’s generosity and encouragement, describing the gesture as a morale booster for students striving for academic excellence.

In all, a total of 3,359 candidates—comprising 1,640 boys and 1,719 girls—from 110 schools (76 public and 34 private) are sitting for this year’s BECE in the municipality.

Meanwhile, information from the Public Relations Office of the Ghana Prison Service confirms that six inmates were also registered to take the BECE. However, one of them fell ill and was unable to sit for the first papers on the morning of the exams.
