Dear critical reader, news that Ghana's Special Prosecutor has asked Interpol to put former finance minister, Ken Ofori-Atta under the Akufo-Addo presidency, on its red alert list for "using public office for profit", sends a powerful message to those now in power leading our bankrupted country.
If they are wise, their guiding mantra throughout their tenures in office should be: Better the Special Prosecutor than appearing before a kangaroo court in a military dictatorship! Yooooooooooo...
The plain truth is that today, no one is untouchable and above the law in our beautiful and bountiful Motherland Ghana, oooo, Ghanafuor. As it happens, not even President John Dramani Mahama nor Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang can play hide and seek when they are invited to appear before the Special Prosecutor, if he suspects that they have used their positions for personal gain - contrary to statute laws pertaining to probity and accountability of public office holders. Full stop. Hmmm, 3y3nsem piiii, oooo, Ghanafuor. Yooooooooooo...
That said, whatever be the case, being labelled a "suspect" doesn't imply that one is guilty of an alleged crime - so suspects invited to appear before the Special Prosecutor, including Hon. Ken Ofori-Atta, have nothing to worry about in our democracy when they are invited to appear to assist in ongoing investigations by the Office of the Special Prosecutor, Ghanafuor. Furthermore, as it happens, in our system, one is always presumed to be innocent, until proven and guilty in a properly constituted law court, oooo, Ghanafuor, is one not, abi? Yoooooooooo...
That's why feigning illness to enable one avoid and dodge putting in an appearance before the Special Prosecutor is a self-defeating strategy-of-choice. It's plain daft, truth be told. Ken Ofori-Atta needs to understand clearly that come hell or high water, he will be held accountable for the entire period of his tenure in office, serving Ghana, as a key high-level appointee of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
So let's be clear: in the final analysis, the mantra for people like Ken Ofori-Atta should be "Better the Special Prosecutor than appearing before a kangaroo court in a military dictatorship!", which is the eventual outcome for all yesteryear's power brokers and state capture rent-seeking kingpins of the Akufo-Addo presidency without exception - if the resetting of our bankrupted national economy fails and there is enforced regime change in a military coup by a Jerry Rawlings-type young military officer, oooo, Ghanafuor. Yooooooooooo. A word to the wise...
