Donald Trump, the American president, is cutting across as a macho bully. He is arrogating to himself the power to coerce the rest of the world into accepting his one-sided “make America great antics”, without anyone having the right to complain or do same. This behaviour is totally madness and should not be allowed to work in this global world.
Yes, the imposition of tariffs on exported and imported goods by any country has many benefits to the country in one way or the other. It is not only to raise income for the government but among the many benefits, it encourages the consumption of home-made goods by their citizens.
As stated, tariff is a levy to generate revenue to the government but when it is detrimentally increased with an ulterior motive to punish some countries for a reason or the other, it is the ultimate consumers that suffer, wherever they are.
Once higher tariffs are placed on imported goods, the prices of such commodities are raised to become dearer to buy to the local consumers hence they will turn to patronise the home-made goods which will comparatively be cheaper. By consuming home-made goods, the companies can get more money to expand their production, build new factories, add quality to their products, create more job opportunities for the people and raise more money for the economy.
Yes, Donald Trump is right in his dreams to make America great but to impose such massive tariffs on other countries while ordering them not to do same to American goods exported into their various countries is a total madness on his part.
Imposition of tariffs must be seen to be “reciprocal” and or “retaliatory” to ensure fairness. However, this is not the application in the “American animal kingdom” of almighty, omniscient, and omnipresent Donald Trump.
In that society where their leader sees his people as more equal than those in other parts of the world, hence must live much better than those outside his turf, no country has the right to retaliate his highly imposed tariffs but to accept them in silence; swallow them line, hook, and sinker.
Oh my God, I never thought a day that Americans will ever treat their European, Canadian, and Japanese allies like a second-rate people same as they see and treat black Africans as unintelligent people living in shithole countries. Nevertheless, Donald Trump has proved it.
He is always talking about American interest and America first. What and who does he think he is? Is he the only wisest man on earth? Absolutely not!
Which country does not want to prosper except probably the black African shithole countries? Which country on earth does not have their interest to protect apart from probably, the African countries?
His imposition of such hefty tariffs on the European Union, China and other countries, must become a tit for tat, or the Mosaic law of “an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth”, policy. It is not only Americans that deserve to live better and more prosperously but their allies.
Much as I understand his concerns to create more jobs for Americans and better their conditions of living by his imposed higher tariffs on foreign goods coming into the USA, I can’t understand why he does not want other countries to do same to American goods imported or exported into their countries.
EU and other countries must counter his ploy by imposing same magnitude of tariffs on American goods coming into their countries and if worse comes to worst, place sanctions on almighty USA to see if it can survive independently in this global world of many insecurities.
This is a great warning lesson to the European Union (EU) and Japan that have all these years been living off America’s goodwill, money, mercy, philanthropy, and protective military umbrella.
If an animal will not harm or bite you, they will not bare their teeth at you, the EU must understand.
Finally, the EU must note that “to be forewarned is to be forearmed” and “Once bitten, twice shy”. They must plan to live independently from the almighty America.
I hope the United Kingdom, the closest ally of America, oftentimes seen and mocked as the lapdog of America, is learning her lesson from the behaviour and attitude by Donald Trump, the businessman-President of the United States of America.
The writer, a humble but fearless and proud son of Kumawu/Asiampa soil, has shared his candid opinion on Donald Trump’s imposition of heavy tariffs on countries to avoid trade imbalances and or, dumping their surplus goods on America.
