Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi and the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has strongly criticized a Friday morning operation by National Security operatives at his residence in Paraku Estate, Kumasi.

Describing the incident as a politically motivated act of intimidation, Chairman Wontumi pointed fingers at the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and President John Mahama, claiming the raid was part of a broader effort to target him.

The security team arrived at his residence with a search warrant, describing their action as a legitimate operation. However, they were ultimately unable to carry out the search or arrest Wontumi, as they failed to gain access to the premises.

Speaking after the incident in an interview on Wontumi FM, the NPP stalwart condemned the operation and questioned its basis. “Am I not a Ghanaian anymore? Now that you've won the election and become President, does that mean I'm no longer a Ghanaian?” he asked, asserting his innocence and insisting he had never held any state office to justify such treatment.

Chairman Wontumi also called on the public and members of his party to speak out against what he termed government oppression. “Ghanaians, rise! Arise, Ghanaians! All NPP supporters should rise. It is because of you that Mahama is treating me this way.”

In a passionate defense of his role, he reminded the public that his position is purely political and does not involve any state power or resources. “Was I ever a Vice President? Have I ever chaired a board? Have I ever been a CEO? Was I ever a minister?” he asked rhetorically. “I am only the chairman of a political party, and it is my duty to campaign for my party.”

Chairman Wontumi further alleged that the government had long been working to undermine him, citing past actions that he believes were intended to cripple him financially. “You collapsed my business back in 2013. Since you assumed office, you've halted all my operations. Even the bank account I rely on has been frozen,” he claimed.

The incident has sparked reactions from within the NPP and among political observers, with many questioning the timing and motive behind the raid.
