The youth of Nangodi in the Nabdam District of Ghana’s Upper East Region have strongly condemned the brutal killing of Mohammed Seidu Akugri, an officer of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), whose burnt body was discovered inside a torched vehicle on Monday, May 19, 2025.
At a press conference held on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, the distraught young people voiced their collective grief and fury, calling the murder an inhumane and intolerable act that has shaken the entire community.
According to early accounts, Mr. Akugri was reportedly ambushed by unidentified attackers between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. while traveling home from Bolgatanga. He was believed to have been shot before his vehicle was set ablaze, leaving his remains unrecognizable.
In a passionate appeal for justice, Ditamina Gambil Emmanuel, speaking on behalf of the youth, reaffirmed the community’s commitment to peace and condemned any attempt to associate Nangodi with the violence.
“Nangodi is a peace-loving community. We do not condone violence of any form. We are heartbroken by this tragedy and urge the police and other security agencies to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation to ensure the culprits are brought to justice,” he stated.
The youth urged law enforcement authorities to step up investigations and increase patrols in the area, stressing that enhanced security would not only restore calm but also reassure residents who are now living in fear.
The gruesome nature of the crime has sent shockwaves throughout the region, prompting widespread demands for swift action. In response, police have launched an intensive manhunt for those responsible as calls for justice continue to grow louder across the district.
