Ghanaian socialite and musician Mona Faiz Montrage, widely known as Hajia4Reall, is set to regain her freedom today, May 22, 2025, following the completion of a prison sentence in the United States.
According to Graphic Showbiz, the 32-year-old is being released from the Federal Detention Center in Philadelphia after serving a one-year and one-day sentence.
Her conviction was tied to her role in a conspiracy to receive stolen funds as part of a wider romance fraud network.
Montrage was implicated in a West Africa-based criminal syndicate that targeted elderly Americans through online romance scams and other fraudulent schemes, amassing more than $2 million in illicit proceeds.
Prosecutors said she directly benefited from the scam, receiving money from around 40 victims. The funds were funneled into U.S. bank accounts using false narratives, including fake gold shipments and fabricated FBI operations.
Known for her prominence on social media, Hajia4Reall was extradited from the UK to the U.S. in May 2023. She pleaded guilty to the charges in February 2024 and was sentenced by U.S. District Judge J. Paul Oetken on June 28, 2024.
Alongside her prison term, she was handed three years of supervised release, ordered to forfeit $216,475, and directed to pay $1,387,458 in restitution.
Court documents show that the judge agreed to a timeline for her return to Ghana, as requested by her legal counsel. Her lawyers say she is ready to turn over a new leaf and plans to make meaningful contributions to society once she is back home.
