The Minister for the Interior, Mr. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has handed over indefinite residence permits to approximately 500 Ivorian refugees residing in Ghana.
This was during a ceremony, which was attended by the Ivorian Ambassador to Ghana, representatives from the UNHCR, the Ghana Refugee Board, and the Ghana Immigration Service, marking a significant milestone in the lives of the refugees.
Mr. Mohammed-Mubarak, while presenting the permits on Monday in Accra, cautioned the recipients that the permits are revocable and emphasized the importance of complying with Ghana’s laws and regulations.
He noted that the issuance of the permits was a testament to Ghana’s commitment to providing a haven for refugees and asylum seekers.
The Ivorian Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Mr. Assiélou Félix Tanon, expressed his country’s gratitude to the government and people of Ghana for their warm hospitality and support of Ivorian refugees.
Representatives from the UNHCR, the Ghana Refugee Board, and the Ghana Immigration Service also commended the Government of Ghana for its continued efforts to protect refugees and asylum seekers.
