A Togolese national accused of orchestrating a string of high-profile robberies in Accra is set to undergo a medical evaluation following reports of disturbing behavior while in custody.
According to the prosecution, the suspect, Adinda-Akpo Abdou Moudjibou, also known as Maxwell, has been observed consuming his own excreta — prompting concerns about his mental health and fitness to stand trial.
Moudjibou was apprehended in Togo after months on the run, in a joint operation between the Ghana Police Service and Togolese security agencies. He was extradited to Ghana and arraigned on Monday, May 20, 2025, to face multiple charges of robbery.
He is alleged to have been involved in a robbery spree between 2022 and 2024, during which he reportedly stole $200,000, a gold wrist chain valued at GH¢20,000, a gold necklace worth GH¢18,000, assorted jewelry valued at GH¢5,000, and a registered CZ 75.5P pistol.
During court proceedings, ASP Richard Amoah, leading the prosecution, informed the judge of the accused’s unusual and concerning conduct while in detention. Based on this development, the court ordered that Moudjibou be remanded into the custody of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) for psychiatric and medical evaluation.
Meanwhile, his alleged accomplice, Marzuk Alidu, has been charged with abetment to commit robbery and is also in custody pending further investigation.
