Five MDCEs confirmed in Greater Accra, Ashanti Regions

The President’s nominees for the positions of Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ablekuma West, Ablekuma North, and Ledzokuku have been confirmed by their respective assemblies in the Greater Accra Region.

The confirmation votes, held on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, in Accra, saw overwhelming support for the nominees. At the Ablekuma North Municipal Assembly, Adamu Mussah Kalamu was re-nominated after failing to secure the required votes in the first round—polling 10 “Yes” votes (48%) against 11 “No” votes (52%). Following an immediate renomination by the Minister of Local Governance, Ahmed Ibrahim, and a second round of voting—allegedly boycotted by five members—Mr. Kalamu secured full endorsement with 16 “Yes” votes.

At the Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly, nominee Israel Adjetey Otchweemah received unanimous support, polling all 18 “Yes” votes cast. Similarly, George Kpakpo Allotey, the nominee for Ablekuma West, secured 12 out of 14 votes, representing 86%, with two members voting “No”.

Following the confirmations, Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo expressed appreciation to the assembly members for uniting to approve the President’s nominees.

In their acceptance remarks, the confirmed MCEs thanked President John Mahama for the trust placed in them and pledged to collaborate with assembly members to drive development in their respective municipalities.

Ashanti Region: DCE Nominees Also Confirmed

In a related development, President Mahama’s nominees for District Chief Executive (DCE) positions in the Ahafo Ano South West and Afigya Kwabre South districts of the Ashanti Region have also been confirmed.

At separate ceremonies held last Friday and Tuesday, Sadiq Abubakar was unanimously confirmed as DCE for Ahafo Ano South West, receiving all 41 votes cast. Pearl Patricia Ankrah, nominated for Afigya Kwabre South, secured 36 “Yes” votes out of 39 ballots cast, comfortably exceeding the required two-thirds majority.

The confirmation ceremony for Ms. Ankrah, held at the Methodist Church auditorium in Kodie, marked a historic moment, as she became the first woman officially confirmed as DCE for Afigya Kwabre South.

Both Mr. Abubakar and Ms. Ankrah expressed their gratitude to President Mahama, traditional leaders, assembly members, party executives, and members for their support and confidence. They pledged to work diligently to bring development to their districts.
