Prof. Kwesi Aning, Head of the Office for International Cooperation at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), has praised Burkina Faso’s President Ibrahim Traoré for notable progress in addressing food security challenges in the country.

During an interview on The Point of View on Channel One TV with Bernard Avle, Prof. Aning highlighted several positive changes under President Traoré’s leadership, emphasizing that the efforts of the junta government are beginning to benefit ordinary Burkinabè citizens.

“In Burkina Faso, the gold mines have been nationalised. We’re seeing roads being built. Hectares are being given to farmers. Even more importantly, food security has improved,” Prof. Aning stated.

He pointed out that these improvements are especially visible in regions that were once severely affected by hunger and malnutrition.

Prof. Aning also challenged the common portrayal of Burkina Faso in Western media, suggesting that these narratives may not accurately capture the current situation on the ground.

“In regions where children were starving and couldn’t concentrate on their education and were being destroyed by ‘kwashiorkor’, now they can live… It raises questions about how the narrative is being created by the West and in the West,” he emphasized.
