The Ministry of Tourism is set to partner with the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) to develop tourism across the region, as part of efforts to unlock its full economic potential.

This was revealed by Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, during a recent tour of major tourism sites under the Visit Volta initiative.

The tour, organised by the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), the Ghana Tourism Authority, and the VRCC, is aimed at promoting the region’s diverse tourism offerings ahead of the 2025 Volta Fair.

Sites visited included the Amedzofe Canopy Walkway, Mount Gemi, Ote Waterfalls, and the Tafi-Atome Monkey Sanctuary. According to Hon. Gunu, the region has over 120 tourism sites, many of which are underdeveloped or unknown to the public. He emphasized the need for a deliberate and strategic plan to revamp key sites to drive tourism, job creation, and local economic growth.

"Government alone cannot do it," the minister stated as he advocated for private sector involvement. He noted that tourism has the potential to positively impact other sectors such as transport, catering, and hospitality. He called on private investors to partner with government agencies to fully develop high-potential sites, beginning with those that can quickly generate economic benefits.

Hon. Gunu also praised the commitment of the Minister for Tourism, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, who has tasked districts and municipalities in the region to compile an inventory of tourism sites. He further expressed confidence in the Roads Minister’s efforts to improve road access to these locations, assuring that infrastructure challenges are being addressed at the national level.

The minister concluded with a call to the media to help promote the region’s tourism assets to both local and international visitors, saying such exposure is key to driving interest and investment.
