A registered Mental Health Nurse at the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in the Ashanti Region, Eric Kwaku Nana Atoo, has called on the public to look out for signs of depression to help reduce the number of suicide cases recorded in the country.

According to him, individuals with depression have the tendency of committing suicide, but support from families could avert it.

Eric Nana Kwaku Atoo said this on the Kumasi-based OTEC 102.9 FM's Health Show "Apomuden Ahotoso" on Sunday, May 18, 2025.

"With depression, the person will show signs of sadness continuously for a period of two weeks, and this sadness could be caused by anything, death, loss of job among others," he said.

He noted that individuals with depression will start losing interest in their own life and anything meaningful in life.

These individuals, according to him, will begin talking about taking their own lives.

Mr. Atoo, during the discussion on mental health, urged the public to always get close to such individuals and show them love.

This, he noted, will save the victims from depression.
