A group of concerned youth within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Assin North District of the Central Region has publicly criticized their Member of Parliament, Hon. James Gyakye Quayson, and the Constituency Chairman, Mr. Felix Benefo, over alleged favoritism in recent party appointments.

According to the group, key positions within the party are being handed to individuals favored by the MP and the chairman, sidelining other qualified and dedicated party members. They claim this pattern of favoritism is breeding discontent and weakening the unity and morale of the party's grassroots.

Tensions reached a boiling point following the removal of Christian Ankomahe Amoah, who had recently been appointed Youth Employment Director and also served as Deputy Youth Organizer for the constituency. The youth allege that the MP and chairman pressured the Regional Youth Employment Agency (YEA) leadership to revoke Amoah’s appointment in favor of Mr. Francis Ativi, described as a close associate of the MP, without offering any clear justification for the move.

Addressing the media, Rankling Otoo, a member of the NDC communications team in the constituency, stated that the concerned youth strongly oppose what they describe as unilateral decisions by the MP and chairman. He emphasized that any leadership decisions must reflect the collective will of the grassroots members, not just a select few.

The group also expressed dissatisfaction with the selection process for the District Chief Executive (DCE) position, alleging manipulation by the MP and chairman to push through their preferred candidate. They claim this was done at the expense of other qualified nominees who had been recommended by the regional vetting committee.

In response to these grievances, the youth are calling on the national leadership of the NDC to step in. They are urging party executives to investigate the allegations thoroughly and ensure that future appointments within the Assin North Constituency are conducted with fairness, transparency, and inclusivity in order to restore trust and unity within the party.
