Indorama Eleme Petrochemicals Ltd, a leading petrochemicals and fertilizer production company based in Eleme, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has reiterated its commitment to environmental preservation and corporate social responsibility.
The company made this known on Thursday during a special event hosted for top media professionals in Rivers State. The occasion served as both a stocktaking session on the company’s media relations over the past 18 years and a formal announcement of a leadership transition in its Corporate Communications department.
Dr. Jossy Nkwocha, Head of Corporate Communications, will retire at the end of May 2025 after nearly two decades of service. He will be succeeded by Mr. Justice Bibiye, a seasoned media and communications professional.
Representing the Managing Director of Indorama Nigeria and Executive Director of Indorama Africa, Mr. Manish Mundra, the company’s Chief Technical Officer, Mr. Deepu Sivadas, praised Dr. Nkwocha for his outstanding leadership and media engagement.
Mr. Sivadas noted, “Indorama had enjoyed unprecedented media cooperation,” adding that Dr. Nkwocha’s professionalism and collaboration with journalists had significantly enhanced the company’s image in the public sphere.
He reaffirmed Indorama’s ongoing dedication to environmental stewardship, social impact, and policies that support long-term profitability.
As the largest single-train urea fertilizer production facility in Sub-Saharan Africa, with a daily capacity of 8,000 metric tons, Indorama continues to set the standard for agricultural excellence and sustainable industrial operations. The company’s commitment to job creation and social impact through responsible practices has solidified its global reputation and role in promoting Nigeria’s brand on the international stage.
In his farewell address, Dr. Nkwocha expressed appreciation to Indorama’s management and the media fraternity.
“I have enjoyed tremendous support of journalists in the state in the past 18 years. For this reason, I haven’t experienced any media crises,” he said.
“I want to thank you all for your cooperation and to announce that I’m about stepping down. By the end of this month, I shall be retiring and Mr. Justice Bibiye will be stepping in my shoes.”
“Bibiye is one of us, a thoroughbred Corporate Communications Personality, having served in NTA and AIT. I therefore, urge you to avail him the same level of support,” he added.
Mr. Bibiye, in his remarks, expressed gratitude to the media for their support and commitment to Indorama’s growth and reputation.
“Indorama is a critical national asset contributing significantly to the economy," he said.
“The company is continuously creating jobs and assisting the government tackle food shortage through high-quality fertilizer production for export and local demands.”
The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Rivers State Chapter, Mr. Paul Bazia, commended Indorama’s achievements and assured the company of continued media collaboration.
The event also featured a guided facility tour and a celebratory “Happy Hour.”
As Dr. Nkwocha exits the stage, industry observers believe the transition to Mr. Bibiye—a veteran media professional—will enable Indorama to build on its communication successes. Described by some as “a plant in a garden” for its serene environment, Indorama is expected to sustain its leadership in petrochemicals and fertilizer production while continuing to play a vital role in Nigeria’s export-driven economy.
