Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson and Energy Minister John Abdulai Jinapor have held a strategic meeting with major stakeholders in the power sector, focusing on ensuring a consistent and affordable electricity supply nationwide.

The discussions, which took place at the Ministry of Finance, involved key representatives from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Volta River Authority (VRA), Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), the Energy Commission, and the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), among others.

Dr. Forson emphasized the toll that unreliable electricity takes on both the national economy and the everyday lives of Ghanaians. He underscored the urgency of change, stating, “We cannot grow our economy or support businesses if our power sector continues to face the same old problems. The time for reform is now,” he stated.

Energy Minister John Jinapor also underscored the need for urgent action, affirming the government’s dedication to revamping the sector through the Energy Sector Recovery Programme (ESRP). He reiterated the administration's commitment to transparency and long-term sustainability.

The meeting addressed several key areas for reform, including enhancing operational efficiency, implementing balanced but sustainable tariffs, improving revenue collection, and refining policies on fuel procurement and power purchase agreements.
