The Lead Economic Analyst for the New Force political movement, Hubert Baidoo, has described as a “moral crime” the dollar cash gift given by the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, to self-styled evangelist Nana Agradaa.

Baidoo argued that Sammy Gyamfi’s action, if not criminal, was morally indefensible and damaging to the image of the current administration.

In a social media post on Wednesday, May 14, the New Force communicator took a swipe at people who are making a point that the GoldBod CEO has always lived an affluent lifestyle even when in opposition.

“The President has lost his so-called goodwill. Sammy Gyamfi committed a moral crime, if not a full criminal undertaking.

“It is preposterous to argue that he was rich already, hence could afford to gift a scammer. The former Prime Minister of the UK was worth over $700 million, but if he engaged in an act similar to this, he’d resign before that Range Rover would move. We are not a serious nation,” Baidoo wrote.

His comments follow a decision by the Presidency not to impose further sanctions on Sammy Gyamfi following his apology, despite widespread public backlash over the incident.

The Gold Board CEO was seen in a viral video handing over an undisclosed amount of dollar notes to Nana Agradaa from his car, triggering calls for his suspension by several civil society groups and the Minority caucus.

Responding to the concerns, the Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, said on Wednesday that Sammy Gyamfi’s apology was adequate and in line with the code of conduct for public officials.

He noted that Chief of Staff Julius Debrah had also cautioned and advised Mr. Gyamfi to be mindful of his public behaviour moving forward.
