The Lead Economic Analyst for the New Force political movement, Hubert Baidoo, has criticised President John Dramani Mahama for failing to sanction the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board over a dollar cash gift to self-styled evangelist Nana Agradaa.

Despite calls from the public for the President to suspend the Gold Board CEO, the Presidency has said no further action will be taken beyond his initial apology.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, May 14, Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, said Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has cautioned and advised Mr. Gyamfi to be mindful of his public conduct going forward.

“The presidency does not believe that any further actions need to be taken beyond the apology and the caution from the Chief of Staff. We all take a cue from it and are going to do better to meet the expectations of the Ghanaian public,” Mr. Kwakye Ofosu said.

“It is not deemed necessary at this moment to take further action beyond what has already been done,” he added.

Reacting to this in a social media post on the same day, the New Force communicator described Sammy Gyamfi’s action as a moral offence.

“The President has lost his so-called goodwill. Sammy Gyamfi committed a moral crime, if not a full criminal undertaking,” Baidoo wrote.

He further argued, “It is preposterous to argue that he was rich already, hence could afford to gift a scammer. The former Prime Minister of the UK was worth over $700 million, but if he engaged in an act similar to this, he’d resign before that Range Rover would move. We are not a serious nation.”
