Do trotro drivers go for special training on how to violate road traffic regulations? — Berla Mundi fumes

Ghanaian media personality Berla Mundi has publicly voiced her concerns about the increasingly dangerous driving behavior exhibited by many trotro drivers on the country’s roads.

Mundi questioned whether these drivers undergo any form of training that seemingly encourages them to flout basic road traffic regulations with impunity. Her comments reflect growing frustration among commuters over the chaotic conduct of some commercial drivers.

Her remarks were prompted by the rising number of road accidents and the common practice of trotros picking up or dropping off passengers in the middle of the road instead of using designated stops.

In a Facebook post, she shared her thoughts, writing:

"Do trotro drivers undergo special training to enable them violate road traffic regulations? If they are not driving on the side of the road, they are parking in the middle of the road to pick or drop passengers. It's as if they are the only ones in a hurry in this country..."

Her post adds to the broader call for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations. Road safety advocates have long warned about the dangers posed by commercial drivers who disregard the rules.

Mundi’s statement is a reminder that addressing this issue requires urgent and coordinated action by law enforcement agencies and transport unions to ensure safer roads for all Ghanaians.
