It’s not necessary to take further action against Sammy Gyamfi in dollar gift saga — Presidency

The Office of the President has said there is no need to sanction the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, over the dollar cash gift he gave to self-styled evangelist Nana Agradaa.

Sammy Gyamfi came under intense public criticism after a video surfaced showing him handing an undisclosed amount of dollar notes to Nana Agradaa from his car.

Despite issuing an apology, several groups — including the Minority Caucus and anti-corruption campaigners — have called on the President to suspend him.

However, addressing the media on Wednesday, May 14, Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, said Mr. Gyamfi’s apology, which aligns with the code of conduct’s corrective measures, is sufficient.

He added that the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has cautioned and advised the Gold Board CEO to be mindful of his public conduct going forward.

“The presidency does not believe that any further actions need to be taken beyond the apology and the caution from the Chief of Staff. We all take a cue from it and are going to do better to meet the expectations of the Ghanaian public.

“We are aware that Ghanaians expect high standards in the performance of our duties as public officials. We remain committed to meeting those high standards to ensure that we deliver the best of governance to our people, who have long suffered under poor governance in recent years,” he said.

“It is not deemed necessary at this moment to take further action beyond what has already been done,” Mr. Kwakye Ofosu added.
