Dollar gift saga: President Mahama pardons Sammy Gyamfi, accepts apology

  Wed, 14 May 2025

The Acting Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Samuel Gyamfi, has been pardoned by the Presidency after a high-level meeting regarding his controversial dollar gift to social media personality Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Agradaa.

The incident, which drew public outrage, stemmed from a viral video in which Mr. Gyamfi was seen handing over an undisclosed sum of U.S. dollars to Agradaa.

The footage sparked debate across social media and political circles, with critics questioning the origin of the money and whether such conduct was befitting of a public official.

Mr. Gyamfi later explained that the money was for personal support and not linked to state funds, adding that Agradaa had demanded financial assistance and allegedly took part of the cash forcefully. Despite his defense, the gesture raised concerns about public perception and the standards of accountability expected of government appointees.

In response to the growing criticism, Mr. Gyamfi issued a public apology, acknowledging poor judgment and pledging to be more careful in the future.

Following his appearance at the Presidency, spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu confirmed that Mr. Gyamfi’s apology had been accepted.

"The President acknowledges Mr. Gyamfi's remorse and has advised him to exercise greater discretion in the future," Kwakye Ofosu stated in an address to the media this evening.

"The presidency does not believe further action is necessary beyond the apology and caution given to Sammy Gyamfi," he added.

Observers noted that Mr. Gyamfi appeared subdued as he exited the meeting, signaling the gravity with which the matter had been treated internally.

With the President’s counsel issued and the public apology on record, the Presidency has indicated it considers the issue resolved and closed.

The incident comes at a time when the government has been emphasizing its commitment to transparency and accountability, especially among high-ranking officials. Critics and supporters alike will be watching closely to see if this episode leads to more clearly defined ethical standards for appointees in public office.

Going forward John Dramani Mahama will be addressed as President Clearinghouse which is synonymous to the incompetent one.
