Ashanti Police arrest three suspected armed robbers in Kenyasi

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested three suspected armed robbers believed to be behind a string of attacks that have terrorized residents of Kenyasi and surrounding communities.

The suspects—Umar Issah, 26; Sherif Mohammed, 20; and Abdul Jalelu, 19—were apprehended on Thursday, May 8, 2025, shortly after they allegedly attacked and robbed two individuals in the Kenyasi area.

Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Emmanuel Teye Cudjoe, confirmed the arrests during a press briefing on Wednesday, May 14, 2025.

According to police accounts, the suspects were riding separate motorbikes when they forcibly seized mobile phones from their victims and attempted to flee. A swift response by the Kenyasi Police Patrol Team led to a high-speed pursuit and the eventual arrest of all three suspects.

During the operation, one suspect, Sherif Mohammed, sustained a gunshot wound, while the others sustained minor injuries. All three are currently receiving treatment under heavy police guard at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

Police have recovered the stolen mobile phones and the motorbikes used in the robbery. These items are being held as evidence as investigations continue.

DCOP Cudjoe praised the Kenyasi patrol team for their swift and professional response and called on the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement.

“The fight against armed robbery requires strong collaboration between the police and the community. We urge residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity,” he said.

Police say efforts are ongoing to ensure the suspects are prosecuted and to prevent further incidents of violent crime in the area.
