Archbishop Charles Agyinasare, Founder and Leader of Perez Chapel International, has opened up about how a moment of infatuation and drug use unexpectedly marked the beginning of his journey into Christian ministry.

The renowned clergyman revealed that he was once a teacher who gave extra classes and was invited by a family to teach their two daughters, both of whom he developed feelings for.

Speaking on Accra-based Joy Prime, Archbishop Agyinasare said during an attempt to propose to one of the girls, she responded that she already had a boyfriend—Jesus Christ.

“I was a teacher, a pupil teacher, and I was doing extra classes too for other people. And this family invited me to come teach their daughters. When I got there, there were two sisters. I liked both of them.

“So when I was making my move, one of them said, ‘My boyfriend is Jesus, and I’d like to introduce you to Him.’ I thought it was a joke. I said, ‘Okay, if that’s all it will take for you to be my girlfriend, then I’ll go with you to church,’” he recounted.

According to him, this happened in 1980 and despite being a teacher, he was addicted to drugs. On the day he accompanied the girl to church, he was high on marijuana and only attended to please her.

“I sat at the back, waiting for the service to end, so I could leave with the girl. Then I heard the preacher say, ‘If you want to give your life to Jesus…’ I came under conviction. I don’t remember what he said because I was high.

“But I remember that I’d never experienced an altar call before. When it came, I walked to the front, gave my life to Jesus, and from that day, the power of drugs and all tobacco broke off my life,” he recalled.
