Three Indian nationals have been arrested in Anyinam, in Ghana’s Eastern Region, for allegedly engaging in illegal gold trading operations.
The arrests were made during a coordinated operation by the Ghana Gold Board and National Security, targeting unlicensed and unauthorized gold trade activities in the area.
Authorities confiscated several gold bars, substantial amounts of cash in multiple currencies, and money-counting machines believed to have been used in the illicit transactions.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects were operating without the required licenses or regulatory approvals, in direct violation of Ghana’s Minerals and Mining laws.
Security officials say the arrests are part of a broader national crackdown aimed at curbing illegal gold trading, which threatens the integrity of the country’s formal gold export system and impacts revenue generation.
The three suspects are currently in custody and assisting law enforcement with ongoing investigations.
Officials from the Ghana Gold Board have reiterated their commitment to cleansing the gold trading sector and ensuring that all illegal operators are brought to justice.
