The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mubarak, on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, handed over 60 pickup vehicles and 20 motorbikes to the Ghana Police Service as part of efforts to strengthen security under the government's 24-hour economy initiative.
The vehicles, which were assembled locally by Zonda Tec Ghana Limited, are expected to enhance the Police Service’s capacity to offer continuous security coverage, particularly for businesses and workers operating outside regular hours.
In a Facebook post, Mr. Mubarak announced the formation of a new dedicated unit within the Police Service. He wrote: “I announced the creation of a specialised unit within the Ghana Police Service, dedicated to providing round-the-clock security for workers and businesses operating within the 24-hour economy initiative.”
Mr. Mubarak explained that the donation reflects broader government efforts to improve police logistics while promoting local industry. He highlighted that Zonda Tec’s involvement aligns with the government’s policy to support companies producing in Ghana.
While touring Zonda Tec’s assembly facility, he praised the company for its contribution to national development. He also revealed that the Interior Ministry is taking steps to digitalise the process of issuing work permits and quotas.
“The initiative aims to streamline processes and make it easier for businesses to operate effectively and legally in Ghana,” Mr. Mubarak said.
The Chief Executive Officer of Zonda Tec, Madam Yang Yang, expressed satisfaction with the partnership and said the company is proud to play a role in bolstering national security. She noted that assembling vehicles locally reflects Ghana’s growing manufacturing capabilities in support of state institutions.
Mr. Mubarak further urged businesses to take advantage of the 24-hour economy initiative, while emphasizing the importance of operating within the law. He assured the public that the Ministry of the Interior remains committed to safeguarding the safety and security of all citizens.
